FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) - McAteer’s Restaurant has celebrated an annual St. Patrick’s Day tradition with the Marion County community for more than 20 years, serving a corned beef and cabbage dinner with potatoes and a roll.
The restaurant was originally opened in 1958 by Marshall and Rosemary McAteer. In 1982, their youngest son, Tim McAteer, took over the business.
The tradition was inspired by a trip to Ireland. McAteer, who is of Irish descent, returned to West Virginia and began the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the restaurant.
Since the tradition began, St. Patrick’s Day has become the restaurant’s biggest day of the year.
